Demolition is not a strategy.
Why the future of our cities lies in the buildings we already have.
22 Oct 2026 · 10:45 to 11:15 · Masterclass 2 (Versandhalle)
Our cities need more affordable housing, a living culture and places where people meet. At the same time, buildings stand empty or are slated for demolition. What if we did not have to build new, but could transform what is already there, intelligently?
Using Frankfurt’s Kulturcampus as his example, Peter Pawelski shows how existing buildings can become liveable 15 minute neighbourhoods, and how social, ecological and economic interests can be brought together.
A masterclass about bold ideas, new business models and the bright future of our cities.
The Juridicum
The former Juridicum on the Kulturcampus in Bockenheim has stood largely empty since the university moved out. On 16 September 2026, the city’s expert panel recommended continuing to examine two options: building on what is there with a mix of uses, and a replacement building.
Our hypothesis: keep it. All of it.
- The entire Juridicum stays, along with the Mehrzweckgebäude, the Labsaal, the former Neue Mensa and the former Kunstbibliothek.
- The open space is unsealed.
- Mixed use: commercial, culture, housing, offices.
- Around 63 subsidised apartments.
- The facade stays. First a sample, then refurbishment on site, in stages.
This is a project hypothesis by CNTXT8, not a decision.
